Vani Saptashrungi Temple

Mother of the Seven Peaks

It is only natural for a demon-slaying Goddess as fierce as Sapta Shrungi Mata to be enshrined in a temple that is every bit as powerful as her. And the Vani Saptashrungi Temple does not disappoint. Situated 60 kilometers from Nashik in a village called Nanduri, the temple is one of the three Shakti Peethas located in the state. The most striking feature of the shrine however, is the presiding deity herself. Depicted in the form of a ten feet tall, eighteen-armed idol surrounded by the seven peaks that give her the name Saptashrungi, the idol inspires pure awe and devotion. Adorning her is a high crown, a golden nath (nose-ring) and a covering of saffron. During Navratri and full-moon days the temple, bright, bedecked and swarming with devotees, truly is a sight to behold.

What to do

The most important festival of the Saptashrungi temple is Chaitrotsav, "the Chaitra festival". The festival starts on Rama Navami. The festival is also attended specifically by childless women making vows seeking blessings of goddess for children.
