Kapaleshwar Temple
The 600 Year Old Temple

Enshrined to the great Lord Shiva, The Kapaleshwar Temple stands near the Godavari river and Ramakund. It is said to have been built over 600 years ago and is frequented by devotees from far and wide. Intriguingly however, the idol of Shiva’s bull Nandi that adorns the entrance of every Shiva temple, remains absent from this one for reasons rooted in an old local legend. This captivating lore along with its intricate architectural beauty, makes the Kapaleshwar Temple a must-visit spot in Nashik.
What to do
Devotees have to climb up 50 steps to reach the temple. A shiva linga is the deity in the sanctum sanctorum. A unique aspect of this temple not seen in any other Shiva temples is the lack of a Nandi in front of the Shiva lingam.
