Ratan Gad
The Jewel of the Sahyadri

Ratangad, meaning a jewel among all forts, is indeed a jewel in the Sahyadri. It is a 400 years old structure set against the scenic backdrop of the Bhandardara lake and stands at a towering height of 4255 feet above sea level. At the base of the fort stands a architecturally astounding 1000 year old Shiva temple. On going upward, one will find the fort’s ruins, caves, water cisterns and also the lovely Rani Mahal. It has four main gates with wells near each. Winter is the best time to visit this fort and experience it in all its beauty.
